OLD SHIRTS & OUT ON BROADWAY

Some new lyrics... both songs written for ukelele...

"Old Shirts"

I miss the times when I made enough to get by
looked a gift horse right in the eye until he blinked
every tee shirt tells a story of insane nights
I shed my history and gave it away with a wink

I don't need anything like I need you
I've never leaned on anything like I'm leaning on you

Story smiled the other day and it lifted me
while Lakely argued that my new beard wasn't fit for me
some silly squall about the past and how it still hurts
I balled it up and threw it out like an old shirt

I have never needed anything like I need you
I've never leaned on anyone like I'm leaning on you

"Out on Broadway"

they're tearing down that house out on broadway
across from the market place
and talk to the neighbors about the demolition
reclamation, and the myth of ownership

of these old fashioned homes, something like our own
we're resting our bones in the front yard of
some old fashioned home its history unclothed
it may not be our own but the memories are

the renovations start near the end of summer
a fresh count of paint and the sound of hammers
the kids plant flowerpots up and down the block
they rise out of the dirt with some watering and luck

hold your breath and count to 10
the winter takes hold before we notice it

in these old fashioned homes our memories unfold
while we're resting our bones in the front yard
of some old fashioned homes their mystery dethroned
they may not be our own, but the memories are
